Leading real estate firms Black Salmon and The Allen Morris Company have announced plans to develop Highland Park Miami \u2014 a $1 billion, mixed-use project<\/a> that will span seven acres and increase the footprint of the Miami Medical District by approximately 10%. The campus is expected to become one of Miami\u2019s most significant developments in decades, as well as an important step toward elevating the city\u2019s position within the U.S. health care industry.<\/p>\n

The project \u2014 which will be undertaken by several architecture firms \u2014 will feature 500,000 square feet of medical-related office space; 1,000 residential units; a 150-room hotel; retail; and carefully designed green spaces. It will also include open walkways and greenery to emphasize connectivity as a design cornerstone. Oppenheim Architecture will be in charge of crafting Highland Park\u2019s residential units, while local company Arquitectonica was selected to handle office design.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a one-of-a-kind project in the health space as it integrates all the familiar uses found in daily urban life with the health care component, creating a convivial environment for its users and the surrounding community,\u201d said Bernardo Fort-Brescia, design principal at Arquitectonica. \u201cIn addition, it sits in a highly visible location on Miami\u2019s most important east-west corridor along I-95 and equally important across from Jackson Memorial Hospital\/University of Miami Health complex. Its graphically powerful design and the sheer scale will announce the importance of this new neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Highland Park Miami will be located at 800 NW 14th St. between the Miami River and the key east-west transit artery Florida State Road 836. It will also be just 400 feet from a Metrorail station, making it a transit-oriented development.<\/p>\n

The developers of Highland Park Miami have been working on the project for the last 10 years, drawing inspiration from existing major medical hubs to learn more about what\u2019s needed for a successful development of this size and importance.<\/p>\n
