{"id":37091,"date":"2023-11-01T10:27:58","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T07:27:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.commercialcafe.com\/blog\/?p=37091"},"modified":"2025-03-25T16:08:44","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T13:08:44","slug":"cornell-medicine-expands-midtown-lease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.commercialcafe.com\/blog\/cornell-medicine-expands-midtown-lease\/","title":{"rendered":"Weill Cornell Medicine Adds 100,000 Square Feet to Its Midtown Lease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Weill Cornell Medicine has inked a new, 30-year lease agreement that would see its footprint at 575 Lexington Ave. expand by an additional 100,000 square feet, making it one of the largest office deals completed in Manhattan so far this year.<\/p>\n<p>The biomedical research unit and\u00a0medical\u00a0school now occupies a total of 300,000 square feet of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commercialcafe.com\/office\/us\/ny\/manhattan\/midtown-manhattan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">office space in Midtown<\/a> Manhattan and is the largest tenant at the 35-story building.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/news.weill.cornell.edu\/news\/2023\/10\/weill-cornell-medicine-to-expand-in-midtown-east-manhattan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">part of the expansion<\/a> that starts next spring, nine floors worth of space will be repurposed with the aim of having the workspace operational for clinical practice by the fall of 2025. Weill Cornell Medicine will also have a new separate lobby entrance.<\/p>\n<p>The tenant was represented by\u00a0Newmark\u2019s David Falk, Andrew Sachs\u00a0and\u00a0Ben Shapiro. George Comfort &amp; Sons\u2019 Duncan and\u00a0Dana Pike represented the landlord in-house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis expansion project is very exciting for our institution as we seek to broaden our footprint in New York City,\u201d said\u00a0Dr. Robert A. Harrington, the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss dean of the Weill Cornell Medicine and provost for medical affairs of Cornell University. \u201cThis new space at 575 Lexington will allow us to offer the best care possible to more patients citywide and will add to our growing enterprise focused on excellence in clinical care, medical research and education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In September 2015, a joint venture comprised of Angelo Gordon, Cannon Hill Capital Partners, and George Comfort &amp; Sons paid $510 million for 575 Lexington Ave., a 739,000-square-foot tower in the heart of Manhattan\u2019s vibrant Plaza District. Originally built in the late 1950s, the property is within walking distance of some of the city\u2019s best fine dining and retail selections.\u00a0Its location is also a boon in terms of
