The Maryland Technology Development Corporation\u00a0(TEDCO) has inked a deal for a new headquarters at a 127,422-square-foot office space in Columbia<\/a>, Md.\u2019s Merriweather District, right in the heart of the city.<\/p>\n

The state agency \u2014 which is tasked with supporting tech companies \u2014 will occupy 9,258 square feet of space at 10960 Grantchester Way, leaving behind its current home at 7021 Columbia Gateway Drive. The move, which TEDCO had been building toward for more than a year, marks a downsizing from its previous 11,816-square-foot office as it adapts to a hybrid work model in the aftermath of the pandemic. If not for the early exit, TEDCO\u2019s lease at 7021 Columbia Gateway would have expired in 2026<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cCOVID has moved many firms to think about the future of work and office space,\u201d TEDCO CEO, Troy LeMaile-Stovall, said last year when asked about the reason for the change. \u201cTEDCO is doing the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

Completed six years ago, 10960 Grantchester Way is owned by Howard Hughes Holdings and is part of a 14-million-square-foot redevelopment of the city\u2019s downtown that is expected to span throughout three decades. The Gateway Innovation District \u2014 developed in partnership with Johns Hopkins Applied Physics \u2014 will be serviced by multiple transit options and will boast more efficient energy usage and stronger cybersecurity measures for its tenants.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis move represents more than a change of scenery,\u201d LeMaile-Stovall said. \u201cIt\u2019s a testament to TEDCO\u2019s strategic decision-making aimed at enhancing our support for Maryland\u2019s innovation ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cresa\u00a0represented the tenant during negotiations, while\u00a0Cushman and Wakefield\u00a0negotiated on behalf of Howard Hughes Holdings.<\/p>\n
