Photonics technology company Excelitas Technologies Corp. recently announced plans to relocate its headquarters from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania. Currently located in Waltham, Mass., Excelitas has chosen to relocate its headquarters to Pittsburgh, where the company signed a 12-year lease for up to 50,000 square feet of space in the city\u2019s Strip District.<\/p>\n

Historically a center of manufacturing and warehousing, the Strip District has been transformed into a Robotics Row hub of modern innovation. With this office relocation, Excelitas joins nearly 1,800 technology firms \u2014 including more than 100 robotics companies \u2014 that have made Steel City their home.<\/p>\n

Located at 2545 Railroad St., the future headquarters location is part of Oxford Development Co.\u2019s 3 Crossings project and is expected to open by early summer. Elegantly merging the city\u2019s past and present, 3 Crossings connects the Strip District to the revitalized riverfront and Pittsburgh\u2019s Three Rivers Trail network.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Pittsburgh region has developed a significant high-technology presence combined with a strong work ethic and an engaged state and local leadership who understand the value of job creation,\u201d said Ron Keating, Excelitas Technologies CEO. \u201cThese factors provided attractive competitive differentiators when we undertook our site selection process. We would like to thank Governor Shapiro and his Administration for their strong and compelling support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following efforts to amplify the regional economy in recent years, Pittsburgh has risen among the top cities for tech<\/a> and top cities for representation of women in STEM employment<\/a> in the Northeastern U.S., as well as one of the most attractive metros for Gen Zers<\/a> of the country\u2019s 50 largest metros. Looking to tap into the significant talent pipeline educated at Pittsburgh\u2019s Carnegie Mellon University, several robotics and automation companies have made a home in the thriving Pennsylvania innovation hub in recent years.<\/p>\n

Notable tech companies that have also taken a Strip District office space<\/a> include engineering and technology company Honeywell; computer hardware manufacturer Aspinity; self-driving vehicle technology company Aurora Innovation; Bosch (which established a Research and Technology Center focused on investigating new and existing internet technologies); and software company Petuum.<\/p>\n
