Online giant Amazon recently announced plans to open a 1 million-square-foot e-commerce warehouse and distribution facility in Frederick County, Va. The company will be setting up shop at the White Hall Commerce Center in Stephenson, Va., and intends to employ more than 1,000 workers at the site.<\/p>\n
The project is the result of a combined effort undertaken by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and Frederick County. Amazon will be eligible to receive a Major Business Facility Job Tax Credit, while funding and services for employee training activities will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.<\/p>\n
\u201cVirginia<\/a> was selected for its business climate, infrastructure, strong workforce, and global competitiveness,\u201d Governor Terry McAuliffe said in a statement. \u201cWith the nation\u2019s third-largest state-maintained transportation network, Virginia is within a one-day drive of more than 40 percent of the U.S., making the Commonwealth and Frederick County an ideal location for the distribution and global logistics industry,\u201d added Secretary of Commerce and Trade Todd Haymore.<\/p>\n The opening of the new Frederick County location will\u00a0further expand Amazon\u2019s presence in the state of Virginia; the company already operates distribution facilities in Chesterfield and Dinwiddie counties. According to VirginiaBusiness<\/a><\/em>, this is the second major project announced for Frederick County this year: Navy Federal Credit Union plans to invest $100 million to expand its Frederick operations center, creating 1,400 new jobs.<\/p>\n
