Lynwood, CA Economic Overview
Lynwood is a city in Los Angeles County, located near South Gate and Compton, in the southern portion of the Los Angeles Basin. The city is centrally located approximately 13 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles between two major freeways, Interstate 105 and Interstate 710, and has tremendous exposure to the one-half million cars that pass through the city daily. Lynwood is home to the only commercial downtown district located along Interstate 105.
Since its incorporation in 1921, Lynwood continues to progress, with many of its accomplishments attributed to an aggressive redevelopment program that continues to attract new business and industry. Today, Lynwood is home to a host of booming retail centers, including the Atlantic Crossing and the Long Beach & Pluma Shopping Center. Restaurants and hotels, food services, building and construction, and retail stores continue to lead the City’s sales tax revenues, due to its location along Interstate 105. The local economy employs approximately 28,000 employees in a diverse range of industries, primarily concentrated in manufacturing and retail trade. The City’s largest private employers include St. Francis Medical Center, PL Development, Superior Warehouse Grocers, Inc., and Earle M. Jorgensen Company. The community is composed primarily of young professionals and families, with a median age of 28.6 and median household income of $43,109.
