Blaine is a suburban city in Anoka and Ramsey counties in Minnesota. The city is located just 12 miles north of downtown Minneapolis along Interstate 35W and Highways 10 and 65. Once a rural town, Blaine's population has increased significantly in the last 60 years. It is the fastest growing suburb in the Twin Cities Metro, experiencing 18.8% growth between 2010-2020, and a projected population growth of 24.3% between 202-2040. For several years, Blaine led the Twin Cities metro region in new home construction. The population was 70,222 at the 2020 census. The city is located mainly in Anoka County, and is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. Interstate Highway 35W, U.S. Highway 10, and Minnesota State Highway 65 are three of the main routes in the city. Anoka County is the fourth-most-populous county in the state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 363,887. The largest city in the county is the city of Blaine, the thirteenth-largest city in Minnesota and the eighth-largest Twin Cities suburb. Anoka County comprises the north portion of the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington, MN-WI Metropolitan Statistical Area, the largest metropolitan area in the state and the sixteenth-largest in the United States with about 3.64 million residents. Blaine has over 7 million visitors per year and offers abundant recreational activities and great shopping. Blaine is home to the National Sports Center, an Olympic-class training facility and international hub for youth sports, as well as the TPC – Twin Cities golf course, which annually hosts the 3M Championship of the PGA Champions Tour. More than 60 parks and 140 miles of trails can also be found within Blaine’s boundaries. As of 2020, the Minneapolis–St. Paul area is the second-largest economic center in the American Midwest behind Chicago. The Minneapolis metropolitan area contributes $273 billion or 74% to the gross state product of Minnesota. Measured by gross metropolitan product per resident ($62,054), as of 2015, Minneapolis is the fifteenth richest city in the US.
