4-Season Rustic Retreat and Camp

Western region of Sullivan County. 18 miles South-West of Monticello, 8 miles East of Narrowsburg - a border town with Pennsylvania. A bit of history: The Campground's history dates back to the 1930s as one of three overnight rustic campsites founded by the Metropolitan Jewish Centers Camp Association. Camp Wel-Met had divisions in Narrowsburg, Barryville and Silver Lake in Sullivan County and became one of the nation's largest sleep-away camps, with well over 1,000 campers a summer. Over the next several decades, Wel-Met fell victim to rising expenses, declining government aid and a change in trends from no-frills to more luxurious and specialty camps. The camp association merged with Goddard-Riverside Community Center, and the camps began to be phased out in the 1970's. Goddard-Riverside, after changing the format, stopped its Wel-Met camping altogether in 1997, the year that the site was acquired by the current owner group.Accepted Offer. Upgraded and very well maintained, 100% winterized (i.e. heat in all buildings and cabins) Camp and Retreat Center. The grounds include a state-of-the-art 12,500 sf Event Hall with a large open room, a dining hall and smaller rooms that can accommodate approx. 300 guests. The commercial kitchen with a large basement is located in this building. The sleep-over camp facilities consist of a set of individual buildings in close proximity, with a mixture of motel style rooms with ensuite bathrooms and dormitory style large bungalows with bunk beds and common bathroom/shower facilities in each bungalow. Besides the camp-style accommodations, the property comes with 2 single family houses which were used to accommodate campers and staff; a building used as an office; and 2 large barns currently used as workshops. The majority of overnight accommodations are located close to the 7-acre lake, the Silver Lake. The property was previously known as Camp Wel-Met founded in the mid-'30s. At the time of purchase in 1997, Camp Wel-Met had a 200+ occupancy with an infrastructure designed for intensive, continuous seasonal use. In recent years, current owners maintained 140 beds and used their fully heated buildings all year round for retreats. Their most recent retreat was in August and September, 2023.
