Remote-first digital currency exchange platform Coinbase recently inked a lease for 58,600 square feet of office space in Charlotte, N.C., in the South End’s newest Class A+ office building.

Conor Brennan of JLL represented Coinbase, while Jennifer Kurz, John Hannon and Rhea Greene with Trinity Partners worked on behalf of the landlord.

Reinforcing the Queen City’s growing status as a fintech hub, the company saw in this expansion an opportunity to create a “Center of Excellence” office destination in the city. Located at 110 East Blvd. — and dubbed 110 East — the 23-story property was completed in 2024 and incorporates nearly 352,000 square feet of LEED Gold-certified office space.

“The strong market momentum at 110 East continues, driven by the building’s prime location and upcoming campus redevelopment and retail,” Kurz said. “With the top five floors still available, and offering branding and signage rights, this presents an exceptionally compelling opportunity for prospective tenants.”

The property at 110 East is the first phase of a 1.2-acre development plan that seeks to create a walkable destination for office, retail, and dining at South and East Boulevard. The lease signed by Coinbase spans across the 18th and 19th floors of the building and is the largest of the three recent deals inked at the property, which totaled 115,000 square feet of new deals signed during the previous 30 days.

Recent deals include SouthState Bank, which will relocate its regional headquarters into more than 40,000 square feet at 110 East. The tenant roster at the property also includes health care administration company Humana; storage solutions company Patterson Pope; and modern Spanish tapas restaurant and bar The Iberian Pig, which will anchor the building’s ground-floor retail component.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Coinbase to 110 East,” said Matt Knisely, managing director at Shorenstein. “The property was designed to meet the needs of the most dynamic, forward-looking companies, and Coinbase’s decision to lease at 110 East is an incredible endorsement of this vision. From the building’s modern design and premium amenities to its seamless transit access and vibrant retail space, 110 East delivers an ideal workplace experience for modern tenants.”

Boasting a preeminent, transit-oriented location, 110 East sits adjacent to the LYNX Blue Line Light Rail (direct stop at East/West Station), the Charlotte Rail Trail, and the intersection of East and South boulevards. Nestled in a highly walkable and bikeable part of town, 110 East is surrounded by unique eateries, craft breweries, and art galleries. The property also offers its tenants unparalleled modern accessibility, connectivity, and amenities.
