Youngstown is a city in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States, and its county seat. It is the 11th-most populous city in Ohio with a population of 60,068 at the 2020 census, while the Youngstown–Warren metropolitan area has an estimated 430,000 residents. Youngstown is situated on the Mahoning River in Northeast Ohio, roughly midway between Cleveland (60 miles northwest) and Pittsburgh (60 miles southeast). The city's largest employer is Youngstown State University (YSU), an urban public campus that serves about 15,000 students, just north of downtown. Youngstown is the site of several steel and metalworking operations, though not to the extent of the past. The largest industrial employers within the city limits are Vallourec Star Steel Company, in the Brier Hill district, and Trivium Packaging. Steelite, a British ceramics manufacturer, has its U.S. headquarters based in Youngstown. Youngstown's downtown is a site of new business growth. The Youngstown Business Incubator (YBI), in the heart of downtown, houses several start-up technology companies that have received office space, furnishings, and access to utilities. Some Incubator-supported companies have earned recognition, and a few are starting to outgrow their current space. Inc.
