Hammes Opens New Building at Moffitt Cancer Center Life Sciences Campus in Tampa, Fla.
Health care real estate platform Hammes recently celebrated the ribbon-cutting of a new life sciences office and research development in the northern Tampa, Fla., submarket of Land O’ Lakes, Fla.
Hammes served as the project manager for the research facility that’s dubbed Moffitt Discovery and Innovation Center at Speros and incorporates 250,000 of Tampa office and research space.
The Discovery and Innovation Center expands Moffitt Cancer Center’s research capabilities as it was designed to support collaboration across research disciplines and help move promising scientific discoveries toward new cancer treatments. The development is expected to house 20 faculty laboratories and approximately 250 research personnel by the end of 2026.
Located near the 120,000-square-foot Moffitt at Speros Outpatient Center, the new facility includes: flexible laboratory environments; shared technology and equipment spaces; collaborative areas; and specialized capabilities supporting tumor biology, drug discovery, chemistry, bioengineering, and cancer metabolism.
“This research project required a level of coordination beyond a traditional medical facility,” said Wade Milligan, regional vice president with Hammes Healthcare. “We had a tremendous team in place and are grateful to Moffitt Cancer Center for their partnership and to our project partners for their role in successfully bringing this project to completion on time and within budget.”
According to research data analyzed for our monthly national office report, the construction pipeline in Tampa is currently one of the more modest in the Southern U.S. At the close of September, Tampa was one of five major office markets in the region to have less than 500,000 square feet of new office space under construction. The other four were Orlando, Fla.; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta; and Austin, Texas.
A significant share of the region’s construction activity was concentrated in Dallas and Miami, which accounted for nearly 59% of the Southern U.S. office development pipeline last month. They were the only markets in the South to each have more than 2 million square feet of office space under construction in September.
