Grace Period

A grace period is a set window after a payment’s due date in which a tenant or borrower can still pay without a late fee or a default. In leases and loan documents it commonly runs five to fifteen days.

The grace period gives some breathing room, but it does not move the actual due date. Leaning on it repeatedly can read as financial distress and may color a landlord’s or lender’s willingness to renew or refinance. Steady on-time payment remains the standard expected of a creditworthy tenant or borrower.
