Office rents in the Far North Dallas and Route 75 corridor submarkets have been steadily increasing over the past few years, closing out 2017’s second quarter at a roughly $25 per square foot average.

According to Plano’s website, the area’s largest employers are corporations. The two largest are involved in finance. Capital One’s regional headquarters located in the city employ 5,500, while the second largest, Bank of America Home Loans, employs 3,400.

Information technology, telecommunication, and software development corporations also employ thousands in the area. DXC Technology—formerly Hewlett Packard—employs 3,250. Ericsson telecommunication equipment employs only fifty fewer employees, with 3,200. NTT DATA—formerly Dell and now owned by Perot Systems—employs 2,250, making it the eigth-largest employer in the area.

Toyota is also a major Plano employer, with 2,900 employees. Finally, Frito-Lay and J.C. Penney Company employ 2,500 and 2,420, respectively.

Education in Plano, TX

Plano is served by the Plano Independent School District, which operates a unique organizational principle with grades 9 and 10 attending a high school and grades 11 and 12 attending a senior high. With this in mind, there are three senior high schools, with the remainder of the 70 schools being high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools. 16 private schools are also operated in the area. All of these schools have proven to be particularly efficient in graduating college-ready students.

Plano has a couple of institutions of higher learning. Two campuses of Collin College, a local community college, are located in Plano. Southern Methodist University, or SMU, operates SMU-in-Plano, which is a graduate school for business, engineering, and computer science. This campus is also home to the Guildhall, known for its graduate program in video game development. Finally, Dallas Baptist University’s North Campus is located in West Plano and has undergraduate and graduate students.

Commuting Time in Plano, TX

Plano’s transportation infrastructure should be the envy of cities with major traffic congestion, like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. Though much smaller than these cities, Plano has developed a system of transportation that makes getting around the area, as well as in and out of Dallas, a breeze.

In the early 2000s, Plano opted to join the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) train transportation system, with numerous stations across Plano. This has cut out the major commute times for individuals having to go into Dallas. At the same time, Plano has a highly organized road system with major roads each having at least two lanes on a divided roadway, which, in turn, allows for higher speeds and less congested traffic. With the nearby Highway 75, the Dallas North Tollway, the President George Bush Turnpike, and State Highway 121, Plano’s commute time is low.
