Non-Profit Safe Horizon Opens New Office in Brooklyn

In the wake of a significant uptick in leasing activity in Brooklyn, social services agency Safe Horizon has announced its relocation to a 20,000-square-foot space near downtown Brooklyn. The organization — which focuses on providing support to victims of violence — will occupy the sixth floor of Quinlan Development Group’s 41 Flatbush Ave., also known as the Pioneer Building.

The landlord was represented by a Cushman & Wakefield team that included Ron Lo Russo, Pierce Hance and Remy Liebersohn, along with Joseph Cirone of CBRE. The tenant also relied on the services of Cushman & Wakefield through Jason Kroeger and Frank Liantonio.

Safe Horizon’s current headquarters at 2 Lafayette St. in Manhattan will remain active, and the organization has not yet disclosed which of its 14 New York City locations will be closing to accommodate the relocation.

The non-profit’s relocation away from Manhattan underscores a growing interest from prospective tenants in the Brooklyn office market. The Pioneer Building — recently renovated with a new lobby, façade, windows and rooftop terrace — offers an ideal working environment for various companies and organizations.

“With an upcoming lease expiration, Safe Horizon had the ability to reevaluate its space needs and create a new and more efficient environment for the organization’s staff and clients,” Kroeger said. “The property’s strategic location offers an ideal environment to foster collaboration and accommodate the organization’s needs to serve the neighborhood.”

Recent additions to the Pioneer Building include real estate investment firm Merit Hill Capital — which expanded its footprint by 13,000 square feet in November 2022 — and guitar string maker D’Addario & Company, which secured a 3,650-square-foot lease in March 2021.
